Fat Girl Thin – Frumpy

Painting 24 of 30 – September 2014, 30 Paintings 30 Days Challenge

Frumpy is the best way to describe my fashion style during this transition. So far I have managed to get away without the need to buy clothes, except for a few business appropriate items. I have found you can get away to a point with large baggy T-shirts and shorts with drawstrings during the warm weather months. Sure, it’s all loose, baggy and frumpy looking. But I’m not looking to impress my 3 and 4 year old kids, I just need to be comfortable, and make sure they don’t accidentally tug too hard and pull down my shorts! The biggest downfall with not getting a new wardrobe and instead electing for the frumpy option, is that when you look in the mirror, the baggy clothes makes it hard to see what a difference you have made. Instead, it’s too easy to fall into the trap of “Oh Look, I’m wearing the same clothes I was wearing 60+ lb ago… guess I haven’t changed that much”, and that can be discouraging at times. I do have to admit, I feel a lot happier, and am more appreciative of my hard work when I do wear the few new items of business clothing I have. When I reach my next milestone, I just might have to break down and get a few new items to see me through the cooler months – maybe then I won’t be so frumpy!
